Duplicate and Link a Screen

Use this function to quickly create a new screen that shares the original screen's content. This process creates a new independent screen that can be scheduled, but the content (zones, magazines, pages and templates) from the original screen is included. Since the content is linked, changes in content in either the original or the linked screen affects both screens.

For example, if you want to share the crawl zone and a video zone between two screens, Duplicate and Link the original screen, and then remove the references to all zones you do not want to share (and optionally create new zones that would be exclusive to the new screen).

Shared elements

  • All existing zones at time of duplication, including their magazines and content.
  • All new magazines created in the shared zones (including new references to magazines).
  • While not officially a shared element, the screen background must be identical in both the original and the duplicated screen.

Any changes to these items, including scheduling, size and placement affect both the original and the new screen. If you need to change these items, you might consider using the Duplicate function, rather than Duplicate and Link.

Not Shared

  • All screen properties (title, schedule and plugins). Note: While not officially a shared element, the screen background must be identical in both the original and the duplicate screen.
  • New zones created after the duplication process, and their content (magazines, schedules, pages, etc).

To Duplicate and Link a Screen

1.Select the screen you want to duplicate in the tree.

2.Go to Edit > Duplicate and Link > Screen.

3.Give the new screen a short name. This name will act as a prefix to all zones and magazines in the duplicate screen.

4.Optional: Give the screen a Title.

5.Do not change the screen background.

6.Remove references to all zones you do not want displayed in this new screen (right click on the zone in the tree and select Remove).

7.Add new zones if required. New zones will not affect the original screen.

8.If asked, say Yes to re-render the pages.

9.You can schedule the screen, or raise its priority (without affecting the original screen). See Schedule a Screen and Screen Priority for details.
